Week In Review (1/22/2016)

blog-0225039001453498078.jpg

Hello Descenters,

So what happened this week?

We released three builds to the Proving Grounds. We focused on two key elements of gameplay with these builds.

  • Overall balance. We wanted to make it a bit easier to hit your target, so we sped up the weapon speeds and increased the size of the hit boxes on both weapons and ships.

  • Pacing. How often are you killed and how quickly can you kill your opponent.

So throughout the week we were increasing and decreasing the size of various hit boxes, speeding and slowing down projectiles, and decreasing the amount of damage done per hit.

The general feeling of The Undergrounds is that we're on the right track.

We also release a new map -- Tycho -- to The Undergrounders. This is a very cool map with large outer rings and a big central space. You can zip around the outer rings fighting with whomever you encounter or get in the center for more concentrated action.

Anything else?

Why yes, we also release the Shaman to The Undergrounds to play in the Proving Grounds. Still VERY early for the Shaman and it will require quite a bit more testing and balancing. For those of you not familiar with this ship, the Shaman has "healing" abilities as well as some offensive power.

And the design beat goes on! Rob finished the first pass on the tech trees this week. The tech trees, along with drone specials, really start to give the bring out the role of each drone. Although it will take a while to fully implement the tech trees, look for mid to late February or so for the first iteration.

That's it for me. Have a great weekend!

Week In Review (1/15/2016)

blog-0529488001452888785.png

Happy New Year!!

Yeah, just a week or so behind. In any case, there's lots of great news this week. So lets' get right to it!

We are opening the Proving Grounds early next week for all of our Undergrounders. We have a bunch of new features and adjustments to current features that need to be tested before we release it to production. So what changes are in this build?

How about?

  • Micro Tycho. Micro Tycho is a smaller version of a very large map. It is a an icesteroid with rings circling the center. This is not only an awesome looking map, but one that plays really well.

  • Damage states. We've decided to give some visual cues showing how much hull damage your enemies have taken. If your hull is at 75% your ship will start smoking (kind of like my pickup -- but that's another story). At 50% hull damage, you're engines will start to spark.

And Based upon your feedback

  • We are taking a look at some weapons currently in the game. We've adjusted the projectile speed for the lasers, the plasma gun, and the vulcan. In addition, we've enlarged (embiggened as Tyler would say) the particle and hit box of the plasma gun and the lasers.
  • New laser bolt colors. Yep, you'll now have a better idea of exactly what your adversary is shooting your way.
  • We know you guys like scooting around in super fast (afterburner) mode. So, we've added afterburner pickups to each map!

All of this -- and more -- are going into the Proving Grounds, however that doesn't mean it all gets into Production. We'll make these decisions after hearing from the Undergrounders.

Some items that are in our queue:

  • The Shaman. We're making great progress with this ship now. Although it can perform all functions currently in the game, its primary role is to provide some healing for teammates. This ship will be released sooner than you think -- certainly by the end of the month.

  • Tech Trees! Just like ship roles are core to the game, tech trees also play a very important role. The design of the tech trees is almost complete and we should start development on them next week. The plan will be to get the infrastructure in place and maybe one or two tiers completed prior to releasing it to the Underground. We'll, of course, continue developing tiers as we go and releasing them as they are ready.

How about some Wingman's Hanger (with a special guest appearance by me -- yikes):

And here's your weekly Studios Snapshot!:

Tons of great stuff coming in the next month or so, so stay tuned!

Cheers,

Hello Descenters,

Not sure if you know, but the game is on sale right now -- 50% off!! -- Steam and HERE! Tell all your friends and join in the fun.

Some of the great stuff the team has been working on this week:

  • Chat!! We are starting with text chat and will ultimately enable voice as well. Look for that VERY soon.

  • Lots of work toward Hot Rock. For those of you that aren't familiar, Hot Rock is an arena style esports game. It will be very cool to play and watch.

  • We've moved the game to UE 4.10.1! This is a major move and the reason for it is there were lots of bugs Epic fixed in it.

  • The laser grids will know friend from foe

  • A level kit is ready for release

  • You'll be able to see someone using their afterburner as well as hear it

  • And of course much more!

You can, as always, find Wingman's Hangar right here:

And the ever popular Studio Snapshot as well:

Week In Review (12/11/2015)

blog-0596278001449861856.png

Good Day Descenters,

This time of year it seems everyone has a sale going on. Well, we're no different! Our sale starts at Noon CST on December 15th, 2015 and goes through the end of the month -- buy it then and get 50% off the regular price. The sale will be on this site as well as on Steam. So if you and or friends and family haven't picked up the game yet, this sale will be the time to do it.

Here's a few things that happened this week

  • We moved from UE 4.92 to UE 4.10.1. This new release has a huge number of UE bug fixes, enhancements, and new features. If you'd like to take a look, go here

  • We fixed and released the Career Page!

  • The infamous mouse wobble has been dealt with. Essentially, we've added a mouse inertia system to compensate for mouse movements that are quicker than the ship is allowed to turn. It is, of course, configurable. So far, it is looking like a solid solution. Head to the forums and let us know what you think

  • Enhancements to the match making system are live now. You won't see anything in the UI about it, but basically, it is designed to get people into matches more quickly and more evenly.

  • A couple of fixes to the Vulcan. One is the rate of fire is no longer tied to framerate  . Second is the tracers are showing up once again :D .

  • We've made a change to the VS Bots. Instead of you fighting the Panzer (it was always a placeholder), you can now fight Incendius. Incendius was created by our community as part of a contest. You can now fight it in the game. It is also a bit tougher than the Panzer, so be ready!

  • The field of view can be adjusted now.

  • Homing missile find their targets a little more often now.

  • Many more fixes and enhancements. Be sure to check out the full list

As you regulars readers know, you can always catch Wingman's Hangar right here:

The ever popular Studio Snapshot is always here too (funny how that happens):

Have a great weekend!
