In our efforts to support this project and the community we have been busy working on the concept of a radio program that will both show case the Descent: Underground game, but the great community that supports it.
Concept of the show:
The show will obviously evolve as the game goes through Kickstarter to testing through launch and beyond. Initially the show will look at the Kickstarter and related updates, the goings on in the forums and interact with the community. As the KS closes and development really starts to take off the show will begin to cover those details as well. Part of this will be community reaction to information releases, Wingman's Thursday Broadcasts and start to focus on the community fan sites and projects that surround the project.
Once the game launches the show will begin to incorporate the leader boards for tournaments and interview winners and hopefully there will be a spectators option and we can even do play by play, like you would hear for a TV or radio sports cast.
Through out this I hope the Developers will pop in every so often to hang out with the hosts and community and chat in addition to some exclusives in news and so on.
I will be hosting a contest starting in April to name the show. I will be taking suggestions and creating a Vote. The winning vote will be the name of the show (provided it is fitting and not something people voted for because of the Lol'z) K-TAM will award the winner with a loot crate type of deal of stuff. I'll put something together and post a photo.
If you have any ideas please post them. The Underground was one suggestion that so far has a nice ring to it.
It is my goal to highlight the community as much as possible. With that in mind I am really hoping to have 4-6 different members of the community who would like to rotate through as hosts of the show. This will allow for more variety in topics and opinions, as well as provide more time for the hosts to plan their show content, talk with the devs and community and beyond. Ultimately anyone who wants to participate in the program can. I would love to have special developer hosts as well once in a while, after all, they are also part of the community.
I would like for this to be a weekly show. The Date and Times will ultimately be based on the availability of the people to host it. For now it is scheduled for 7pm pst on Sundays. I would imagine the optimal time may be closer to 11am PST to accommodate the European community members. I work until 3-4 am Sundays on average so for myself at this time it would not be possible and until I have confirmed hosts I will be filling that role with your help as listeners and participants.
We host all of our shows currently through our Mumble, there are a couple of reasons for this. #1 because we are broadcasting openly we don't want to be on someone else's VoIP service where anyone who is unaware that we are broadcasting enters the room and potentially says something rude, embarrassing or they don't want to broadcast them selves.
Because of how K-TAM operates to bring in as many people as is reasonable into a conversation we don't use a typical phone board/screener system that most radio stations might use. We use a second account to be a relay broadcaster so that everyone can be broadcast equally over the system. That is not to say that we can not do the same thing with another program. K-TAM is also a great middle ground if you don't random people entering someone eles's VoIP service like Ventrilo or Team Speak.
This is not to say that the hosts of the show, with the permission of the VoIP host can't broadcast through another service. Such as the Unofficial Descendent Studios Team Speak many of you already participate in. We just need to make sure everyone who wants to participate in the show knows where to connect to. If it makes it easier for the hosts and community to connect to the Team Speak then we will find a way to make it work.
A show like this needs community support. We need to spread the word about the show. Many people don't like to read pages of notes. As an audio broadcast people can still move away from their desk, or work and be filled in on what is going on. We will be recording every show and making them available for people to stream later as well as replaying them again through out the week along with our other programs.
We will need Promo's and show update commercials as reminders through out the week to air on K-TAM so people who may not know about Descent:Underground can tune in as K-TAM is more than just about D:U. We are a Gaming and Geek concept radio and want to cover a gambit of other topics.
K-TAM also doesn't operate free. If you enjoy the show consider donating. We are non-commercial not for profit. Once the bills are paid we want to be able to offer prizes to community members for participating in the show and any contests the hosts would like to hold.
If you have any questions or concerns about this show concept let me know. In the end I want this to be the D:U community show. I am hosting the platform from which it can be launched from. The infrastructure already exists and how much of K-TAM reflects the community ultimately depends on you, the listener.
