Thieves, Truckers, Co-Op Play, & More in "Kythera" (2371)

Howdy, Descenters!
We're sorry for the long delay since the last patch. We fixed a major engine bug with VR, but it caused several others and it's taken time to fix them.
Luckily, we have some cool stuff for you, including cooperative battles against bots! We also made some changes to the balance sheet for ships and weapons. We've also updated some things, made some other tweaks, and generally tried to buff your enjoyment.
On top of that, we have two awesome new ships- the Warlock and Goliath, to help you bedevil your opponents!

Let us know what you think on the forums!

NEW STUFF & Patch Notes (2371)

  • CO-OP VS AI (MULTIPLAYER) - We've added co-op play to all of the Vs Bots maps. You can create a match from the Multiplayer menu by selecting the "Co-op Vs AI" game mode.
    • Be sure to connect to our Discord Server to voice chat while playing co-op!
  • COCKPIT - You guys have been asking for this since development started, and we're finally ready to show off the first implementation of the cockpit! Whether you're seeking more immersion from your game or need an anchor in VR, you now have your own virtual cockpit from which to do battle. If you prefer just the UI by itself, you can turn on "Hide Cockpit" in the gameplay options menu.
  • AI VARIETY - We're sick of fighting nothing but Incendii (Incendiuses? Incendiores?) day-in and day-out in Vs Bots, and we imagine you are too. This changes now! Different bots spawn in different waves on different maps. In addition, as the waves progress, the bots get tougher, so be prepared. Oh, by the way, you might want to watch your back, because now they will HUNT YOU DOWN.
  • VR IMPROVEMENTS
    • GAZE INPUT - We fixed a major engine bug that was affecting input devices in VR mode. You should have an easier time navigating menus and such in VR.
      • Gaze input has been reenabled as default. If you'd like to disable it, pass in "-gazeinput=false" as a command line parameter
      • Gaze input now works in respawn and pause menus
      • Left mouse click, joystick primary button, and several other controllers work for gaze input press - and others can be configured in the input menu
      • Additional UI elements are compatible with gaze input - and working with Epic on more engine support
    • If you are not using Steam, you may need to pass a command line option, either --vr=oculusvr or --vr=steamvr to activate VR.
    • If you are experiencing VR crashes, please launch in non-VR mode to be sure that DirectX12 is disabled from the Launcher's options (gear) menu. You can then try VR mode again.
  • NEW SHIPS!
    • GOLIATH - A massive, heavily-armored cargo drone!
    • ORE FUSER - The Goliath can compress ore into blocks to create temporary barricades.
    • Fuser blocks now have a texture and can drop ore when mined.
    • The Goliath spawns with a few units of ore in its hold (just for testing). In the future, you will have to mine those. We will be adding mineable resources to the maps soon.
  • WARLOCK - A sneaky, dastardly, thieving infiltrator!
    • DEACTIVATOR - The Warlock can use this tool to steal power-ups from other players! It can also disable Laser Grids and Mines!
      • When the Deactivator steals a power-up it holds on to it, click the tool again for an instant to drop it. You can then pick up what you stole or leave it for your teammates.
    • SECURITY TOOL - The Warlock can use this tool to bypass some security doors. It will be upgradeable via tech trees in the future.
  • MISSILE PICKUP CONSISTENCY - We've heard your feedback on not being able to tell whether you're grabbing a 1- or 4-pack, so 1-packs of Homing and Concussion Missiles have been removed from the game, at least for the time being.
  • SHIP REBALANCE - Many ship stats have been changed:
    • SURVIVABILITY - Ships got a small health buff.
    • SPEED - Some ships' speeds got tweaked now that their specials are working.
    • MINING - The Torch now no longer out-mines the Auger. The Torch actually mines poorly, as Our Ford intended.
  • MISSILE EXPLOSION FIXES - You know that one wall in Valor across from the Mega tunnel that would sometimes eat Smart blobs and Mega explosions? We fixed that.
  • SMART MISSILE blobs are no longer super-geniuses, just fairly clever.
  • HOMING MISSILES are now homier. That's totally a word.
  • SHAMANS GET POINTS - we realized that Shamans weren't getting points for healing. Now they do.
  • SECURITY DOOR - The security door in Skylab has gotten a facelift. Might be a bit more obvious what level of security you need now.
  • GADGET AUTO-SWITCH FIX - Auto-switch blocking capacity for gadgets mysteriously didn't make it into the last release. This has been resolved.
  • Major bug squashes.
  • Minor bug fixes and tweaks.
Known Issues:
  • Combat, Graphics, and Sound
    • Death Roll is on vacation and should be back soon.
    • Setting Field of View to larger than 90 in non-VR mode can cause distortion of the cockpit, making the HUD look far away.
    • Deactivator needs a cool effect.
    • Destructibles need a cool particle effect.
    • The Drone Bay has too many lights and so some people are getting poor performance while admiring their ships.
    • Objects near the corners of the screen can experience "barrel distortion" because of the way that 3D objects are mapped to a 2D screen. Using the Field-of-View slider can help with this in some cases.
    • Collisions are more sticky than they are supposed to be, sometimes causing ships to catch on each other.
  • Launching, Installing, and Platforms
    • The game cannot currently be run using DirectX 12 and virtual reality at the same time and will crash on boot if both are enabled. To turn off DX12 to use VR, open the launcher in non-VR mode, open the gear menu, and turn off DX12 support. Then you can close and reopen the launcher in VR mode to play.
    • Unreal Engine 4's DirectX 12 support is currently experimental. As such, please make sure to turn it off if you are experiencing instability.
    • Installer & Launcher need to be run as administrator on Windows.
    • Streaming software may need to run as administrator to capture video.
    • Uninstalling & reinstalling the launcher may not properly clear settings.
    • Steam Overlay doesn't work on Mac and Linux.
    • Part of the ship selection panel in the Drone Bay can get cut off on 4:3 displays. Selecting a 16:9 resolution can sometimes help with this.
  • Input
    • In VR, drop-down menus may not respond properly and some menus are not interacting with the VR gaze input pointer correctly.
    • If the gamepad button stops working in VR gaze input, try using the mouse or joystick button instead for the next click.
    • The axis configuration menu is somewhat clunky and uses too-technical language (power changes the curvature of the sensitivity curve, factor scales the sensitivity curve)
    • Linux appears to not be detecting joysticks in many cases.
    • Many joysticks do not yet have a default mapping and need to be configured manually.
    • Controller customization issues are still being experienced by some users. Control customization needs a "reset to defaults" button.
    • If you are having mouse issues, please make sure that your Mouse axes and sensitivities are NOT inverted and reversed at the same time.
    • Multiple joysticks of the same model cannot currently be distinguished by the game.
  • Matches
    • Private matches can launch even if some players are marked "not ready".
    • Auto-start timer in the match lobby doesn't yet display. Keep an eye on the status shown above for an indication as to how soon your match will start.
    • There may be a wait for matches at times. While our all-backer player base is much larger than the beta pool, player play times can vary.
    • In a match lobby, gamepad users sometimes cannot exit the lobby using the gamepad.
    • All servers are currently in the U.S., other locations are planned.
